11 August 2002: First Entry I expected this site to be up and running long ago, but real life unfortunately stomped all over those plans. I'm about to leave on my honeymoon, so let me at least give an update on the State of the Studies. I've decided to begin with Wordsworth, since that's who sparked this obsession. I really should begin chronologically and start with Blake but I need to jumpstart this, and Wordsworth is what will do that for me. I was in DC this weekend and bought a used copy of The Hidden Wordsworth: Poet, Lover, Rebel, Spy. It's my first Wordsworth bio and while it may not be the best one, it was well-reviewed and flipping through it intrigued me. I'll try that, and then I'll probably try some of the shorter poems before tackling the Prelude. I'm going to try to stall long enough to get a peek at Dr. C's syllabus, so what I do at home complements what I do at school and so I don't end up with endless repetition. This bio is hefty and will certainly carry into September, so after I return on the 24th expect subsequent updates to be Wordsworth-heavy. I've just found out that they're eliminating the analytical (read: logic problems, my Waterloo) section of the GRE and replacing it with an analytical writing assessment. That sound you just heard was me, collapsing to the ground in relief. Now all I have to worry about is reading comp (which I feel ridiculous worrying about, but reading long things quickly is my forte - reading short things slowly, especially when they bore me, can be difficult). I'm studying a lot now, and come September I'll be alternating the standard GRE studying with the subject test studying. I've added many links to the links page, including two very long directories. I've only spot-checked the directories, and both contain links to sites that have nothing to do with Romantic poetry - when I return, I'll be visiting each site and adding the ones I find most pertinent to my page. The FAQ is far from complete; if anyone has a question they'd like answered, please email me at spots of time (at) ladydisdain dot com. See you after the 24th!
