New blog is here.
I began this online journey in complete anonymity. There was a certain freedom associated with that; I was once much more open (often in a very trainwrecky sense) in the first incarnation of this journal, the center cannot hold. Once this space became Planning A Sky and I began using my own name, I became less open.
And then people started to find me.
Of course being live on the 'net you expect for some people to find you. Old friends from high school, parents of theatre buddies, your mentor - these people find your site and they email you to tell you and it gives you a moment's pause until you think well, I put it out here; if I don't want people to find and enjoy it then I should take it down. And you leave it up. Sometimes you pass out your URL yourself - to a favorite professor, to dear friends. And those choices are yours, and you make them freely.
You know there are people out there reading that you wish would go away - men you dated once or twice and former friends, for instance. But again: you are live online, and if you don't want to be found, you are the one that needs to go away.
I am not sure exactly what I plan to do here. I haven't written regularly - not truly - for nearly a year. This site has long been stagnant, and perhaps I have been stagnant as well. I do know this: I am tired of this journal. Five years is a long time. I've had hiatuses (hiati?) and always come back, but I don't think so this time. Not in the same way, anyway.
Something will come back here - I love my domain name too much to give it up. But that something will not be Planning A Sky, at least not in its current incarnation. Perhaps this will come back as a personal site of a less personal nature. Perhaps I'll decide to hang it all and have a journal anyway. Perhaps I'll return to anonymity with an entirely new domain and keep a book journal or something here. I don't know, really, and I don't see myself deciding anytime soon.
The best thing would be to join the notify list, which is where I'll send any announcements about returns, new sites, or lack thereof. melissa@ladydisdain.com will remain my active email address, and as always I'd love to hear from you. I'll be pulling everything down this weekend (except my Voyager fanfic, but none of you are here for that) and after that? Who knows. As always, I can be found hanging around The Usual Suspects.
Some of you have been with me since the beginning. Some of you are new. Some of you are dear friends, casual acquaintances, family. To all of you, I say thank you - you have been a part of the experience, and as such in some way have helped to enrich my world a little.
See you...somewhere.
